Looking for an easy and practical way to tan rabbit skins. I am thinking about raising meat rabbits again but don't want the skins to go to waste.

Re: Rabbit skins
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 8:35 AMI my experience jack rabbit hides are too thin to tan properly. It is my understanding that hides were scraped while green then cut and twined then let dry, raw hide in effect. Domestic hides are alot thicker, most I have seen have been tanned with alum, which I dont know how to do. Other furs that I have tanned where scraped and brained while still fresh then streched until dry, then smoked.

All can work for you as long as you stretch and scrape the hides well. -

Tue, November 6, 2007 - 1:41 AMThis is a wonderful tutorial for tanning rabbit skins. It looks easy enough to do, and is very detailed. I did find that the page took over five minutes to load...for some reason MEN's website is always hard on my poor puter. Anyway, here' s the link - I hope you find it valuable.
